Asia Cup 2023: Big win for Pakistan, beat Nepal by 238 runs

Sports Desk: In the very first match of the Asia Cup 2023, host Pakistan won a big victory over Nepal. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first, setting Nepal a target of 343 runs for the loss of 6 wickets thanks to centuries by captain Babar Azam (151) and Iftikhar Ahmed (109). In reply, Nepal’s team was able to score only 104 runs and lost the match by 238 runs. Nepal’s batsmen could not understand the bowling of Shadab Khan, who took 4 wickets for 27 runs.

Earlier, Pakistan had had a bad start. Fakhar Zaman 14 and Imam-ul-Haq returned to the pavilion after scoring 5 runs. After this, captain Babar Azam along with Rizwan took the innings forward. Rizwan scored 44 off 50 balls. Meanwhile, Babar Azam scored 151 runs in 131 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 109 runs in 71 balls to reach the score of 342. While bowling for Nepal, Sompal Kami took two wickets for 85 runs in 10 overs. Apart from this, Karan took one wicket by giving 54 runs and Lamichhane took one wicket by giving 69 runs.

In response, Nepal got off to a bad start. In the very first over, Shaheen Afridi gave two shocks to Nepal. After this Naseem Shah also took a wicket. Arif Sheikh scored 26 and Sompal Kami scored 28 runs but both of them fell victim to Harris Rauf. Gulsan made 13, Dapinder Singh made 3 and Lamichhane got out on 0 only. After this, Shadab Khan attacked again and took the wickets of Kusal and Lalit and stopped Nepal for 104 runs.

While bowling for Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi took two wickets for 27 runs. Apart from this, Naseeh Shah took one wicket by giving 17 runs and Mohammad Nawaz took one wicket by giving 13 runs. Fast bowler Harris Rauf took two wickets for 16 runs while Shadab Khan took four wickets for 27 runs. In the Asia Cup, there will be a match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Thursday, which will be played at Palikel ground from 3 pm.
