Before hearing the petition in the Supreme Court, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren Has been summoned once again. The working president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has been asked to come to the ED office in Ranchi for questioning on September 23. This is the fourth time that the Central Investigation Agency has sent a notice to the CM of Jharkhand. CM has not gone for questioning thrice. Last time also he had sent a letter through messenger. In the letter sent by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, it was said that he has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the ED investigation. He will not participate in the ED’s inquiry until the hearing on that petition and the order of the Supreme Court. Therefore, the central agency should wait till the Supreme Court’s decision. In fact, JMM leader and Jharkhand CM have filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a stay on the ED summons.
ED called Hemant Soren for questioning on 23 September
Hemant Soren’s petition was heard in the Supreme Court on September 15. The court had postponed the hearing of the case for September 18. Now on Monday (September 18) Supreme Court Even before the hearing, ED arrested CM Hemant Soren Another summons has been issued. In the latest summons, Hemant Soren has been called to the ED office on 23 September. He has been told that there is a need to interrogate him in the matter of purchase and sale of land. Therefore, he should come to the ED office on 23 September.
Hemant Soren did not appear even on 9th September
Let us tell you that on September 9 also, ED had called him for questioning, but the CM did not appear in the office of the Central Investigation Agency. Had gone to Delhi to attend the dinner hosted by the President during the G-20 Summit held in New Delhi. The Chief Minister has also filed an intervention petition in the Supreme Court. Jharkhand CM says that it is wrong for ED to repeatedly call him for questioning.
Hemant had said that ED’s summons was politically motivated.
It would be relevant to mention here that when ED had sent summons to the CM in this matter for the first time, he had said that this entire matter was politically motivated. Efforts are being made to implicate him at the behest of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. ED is being used like a weapon. He had requested the ED to withdraw its summons. He had said that if ED did not withdraw the notice, he would take legal action. Instead of withdrawing the summons, ED issued another summons and called him for questioning on August 24. This time also CM Hemant Soren did not reach the ED regional office in Ranchi.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren reached Supreme Court
After receiving the second notice from ED, a day before the date of appearance i.e. on 23rd August, Hemant Soren had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging the action of the Central Investigation Agency. Jharkhand CM had requested the court in the petition to put a stay on the summons of ED or give instructions to stop any coercive action of ED. Since Hemant Soren had not requested for an early hearing, the ED issued him a third summons asking him to appear for questioning on September 9.
ED started investigation based on the report
It would be relevant to mention here that ED had started investigation into the land scam on the basis of the report of the then Commissioner of South Chhotanagpur, Nitin Madan Kulkarni. The matter is related to the purchase and sale of land occupied by the army. It was said in the report that army land was bought and sold in Jharkhand on the basis of fake name and address. Ranchi Municipal Corporation had lodged an FIR in this regard. ED had started investigation by registering ECIR on the basis of the same FIR.
