Voting for the Ladakh Hill Autonomous Development Council Kargil (LAHDC) elections is being held today for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370. 65 percent voting has taken place in LHDC elections till 1 pm. In this, Ranveerpora (Drass) had the highest turnout of 90 percent. At the same time, Gund Mangalpur had the lowest voting percentage of 49.86 percent. Talking about Kargil Town, 56.84 votes were recorded till 1 pm.

The people of Kargil are coming forward openly to vote. Voting starts at 8 in the morning, which will continue till 4 in the evening. 85 candidates are in the fray in the elections for 26 seats. At the same time, by 11 o’clock only less than half of the total number of voters had voted. Till 11 am, 40.31 percent voting took place. Earlier till 9 am, 11.46 percent voting took place. Till 9 am, 8.78 percent voting took place in Ranveerpora (Drass). Whereas, 11.38 percent voting was recorded in Kargil Town.

EVMs are being used for the first time in Kargil elections. There are 95388 voters in the election, of which 46762 are women. 278 polling stations have been set up. Of these, 114 are extremely sensitive and 99 are sensitive. Adequate number of central forces have been deployed for security.
