Rahul Navin Appointed As Officiating Director Of ED Upon Completion Of Sanjay Kumar Mishra Tenure
Rahul Navin New ED Director: The tenure of ED Chief Sanjay Kumar Mishra has ended today i.e. on 15th September. Now ED Special Director Rahul Navin has been appointed as the acting Director of ED.
The official order said on Friday that IRS officer Rahul Naveen has been appointed director-in-charge of the Enforcement Directorate. Sanjay Kumar Mishra served as ED Director for about 4 years and 10 months.
Who is Rahul Naveen?
Rahul Naveen is a 1993 batch IRS officer. Apart from being the Special Director, Rahul Naveen, who hails from Bihar, is also working as the Chief Vigilance Officer of the ED Headquarters. According to sources, he will perform the responsibilities of acting director till the formal appointment of the new director.
SK Mishra given extension in service thrice
Sanjay Kumar Mishra was appointed ED Director in 2018. His tenure was to end in November 2020. He was given extension of service thrice by the Centre. This move was criticized by the opposition and the decision was challenged in the Supreme Court.
The court had declared the expansion illegal
An amendment was also made in the CVC Act to extend the tenure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra. In the month of July last, the Supreme Court had declared the third extension of Sanjay Kumar Mishra illegal. Which was scheduled till 18 November 2023.
Permission was given to remain in the post till 15th September
The court had also said that he would have to step down by July 31. However, the Central Government had then requested the Supreme Court to allow him to continue in the post till October 15. On which the court allowed him to remain in the post till 15 September.
