Rajya Sabha Election: SP announced candidates for Rajya Sabha elections, these names including Jaya Bachchan were approved

State Bureau, Lucknow. Samajwadi Party has decided the names of Rajya Sabha candidates. The party is going to send Jaya Bachchan to Rajya Sabha for the fifth consecutive time. Former Union Minister and National General Secretary of SP Ramji Lal Suman and retired Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan have also been selected as Rajya Sabha candidates.

SP has expressed confidence in powerful Dalit leader Ramji Lal Suman, close to Mulayam, for ‘PDA’ (Backward, Dalit, Minority) in Rajya Sabha. Here Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav and Javed Ali Khan are already representing backward classes and minorities.

These names were stamped

SP President Akhilesh Yadav had called a meeting of MLAs at the party headquarters on Monday to decide the names of Rajya Sabha candidates. The names of Jaya Bachchan, Ramji Lal Suman and Alok Ranjan were approved in this. All three SP candidates will file nomination on Tuesday. Votes of 37 MLAs are required for Rajya Sabha seat.

SP currently has 108 MLAs, it needs 111 MLAs to win three seats. Since SP is also included in the opposition alliance INDIA, it will get the support of two Congress MLAs. He will need just one more vote. The party claims that it has enough majority to make three candidates win.

Ramji Lal Suman was close to Mulayam

Ramji Lal Suman, a four-time MP, reached the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1977. Suman, who was close to Chandrashekhar, was made the Minister of State for Labor and Welfare in 1990. Since the formation of SP in 1993, he remained Mulayam’s confidant. Akhilesh has also made him the National General Secretary.

Alok Ranjan has been the Chief Secretary in the government of Akhilesh Yadav. He retired in July 2016 after holding the post of Chief Secretary for about two years. After stepping down from the post of Chief Secretary, Akhilesh appointed him as Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation. Whereas, Jaya Bachchan is the wife of famous film actor Amitabh Bachchan. The party has been sending him to Rajya Sabha continuously since 2004.

If all three seats are won, the number in Rajya Sabha will increase to five.

At present SP has three members in Rajya Sabha. These include Jaya Bachchan, Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav and Javed Ali Khan are included. Jaya Bachchan’s tenure is ending on April 2, so the party is sending her to Rajya Sabha again. If all three SP candidates win, their total number in Rajya Sabha will become five.
