Jammu: A few days after the announcement by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, on Saturday, Udhampur railway station was formally named as Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Railway Station. Northern Railway on Saturday issued the notification of change of name in honor of the brave army soldier after the approval of Jammu and Kashmir administration.

According to news agency ANI, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that ‘these are the people who always need to be remembered.’ On Saturday, he paid tribute to Captain Tushar Mahajan and unveiled the renaming of the station at Udhampur. He appreciated the trend of naming public places after soldiers and said that this is a historic moment in the history of Udhampur.

Who was Tushar Mahajan?
Captain Tushar Mahajan was an officer of 9 Para who was martyred in February 2016. In February 2016, he was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Pulwama district of South Kashmir. This terrorist attack took place on the Jammu Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) building. Captain Tushar was martyred after killing a terrorist while protecting the army soldiers. After his death, he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, which is a proof of his bravery.
